Volunteers have lovingly restored habitat in the 70 acre western-most portion of Somme Woods for about 30 years. On more than half, invasive plants are rare, and wildflowers and songbirds thrive .
In 2014, a kick-off event introduced new volunteers to the needs of the 150-acre east part of the preserve. This spirited group now meets every weekend throughout the year to restore woodland, wetland, savanna, and prairie.
