Since the 1970s, volunteers have been hard at work removing invasive plants – such as buckthorn – collecting natural seeds, and carefully conserving wildlife and plants at the Somme forest preserves in Northbrook. Thanks to their efforts, these beautiful woods and prairies enjoy richer and wilder ecosystems with diverse communities of plants and animals. Yet, nature still needs our help; so each week volunteers enjoy time outdoors and each other’s company as they restore nature at the Somme preserves.  Everyone is invited to help – or just to enjoy.
