Somme Prairie Grove is located in Northbrook, Illinois. You can get there by car, train, or bus:

Drive to the Somme Woods forest preserve parking lot on Dundee Road (Route 68) just east of Waukegan Road (Route 43). As you drive into Somme Woods, notice the “Somme Prairie Grove” kiosk on the left and, behind it, a wide path. Walk briefly down that path and watch for a small trail sign, where you’ll take a single-file footpath that branches off to the left. Walk for one minute to the corner of Dundee and Waukegan, where you can cross at the light, and enter the preserve path system by the preserve signs. It's a little difficult to cross a street to get into this wild nature, but that makes it all the more peaceful and protected a place to enjoy while you're there.
Take a Fox Lake, Deerfield or Grayslake (Milwaukee District North Line) train to Northbrook. Walk northeast on Shermer Road 1/3 block to Meadow Road. Walk north on Meadow Road about one mile to Dundee Road. The preserve begins at Dundee. There are entrances to the footpath system across Dundee from Meadow and (if there's traffic) about a block west by the railroad tracks (where a mid-road island makes it easier to cross Dundee.)
Take the PACE bus number 422 to Dundee Road (please check the schedule.) At the northwest corner of Waukegan and Dundee, you'll find the entrance to the preserve trail marked with signs and an information box.
